kamakura
Kamakura, a city located 50 km from Tokyo in Kanagawa prefecture, is a major tourist destination in Eastern Japan. Since it was the capital of Japan from 1192 to 1333 during the Kamakura Era, the area is well known for its numerous temples, shrines, and historical monuments. The large outdoor statue of Amida Buddha at the Buddhist temple Kotokuin is one of the city¡Çs major historical destinations.

In addition, Kamakura is a beautiful, relaxing place for walks and hikes, surrounded by lots of mountains and greenery. This is especially true during the spring and autumn season with the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves amid the historic backdrop. The city is also a very popular destination during the summer for day trips to the beach¡¡where locals, Tokyoites, and foreign tourists alike all come to enjoy a wide range of water sports, particularly surfing. The number of visitors increases dramatically during August when it is time for the famous firework displays.

While some are satisfied by the end of their visit and head home with Kamakura¡Çs famous Hatosabure pigeon shaped biscuits as souvenirs, there are others who just can¡Çt get enough of the clean air, fresh food, and relaxing environment and end up living permanently in the area. The combination of being able to find the delights of the city, from delicious dining to boutique shopping, and living near the beach is what currently attracts more and more people to this friendly city.
